About the Role

You will develop and test robotic hardware from concept through production and end-of-life support. You will design mechanisms and tooling, perform structural and thermal analysis, prototype and integrate components, manage suppliers and BOMs, lead safety and failure investigations, reduce costs, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, and 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, welding, sheet-metal fabrication, and 3D prototyping
  • Understanding of manufacturing materials
  • 8+ years of CAD, prototyping, fabrication, or 3D-printing design experience
  • Communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to conduct root-cause corrective actions and trade studies
  • Problem-solving ability

Responsibilities

  • Design robotic hardware, mechanisms, and system architectures
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing improvements for end-of-arm tooling
  • Conduct finite-element and thermal simulations
  • Perform structural analysis and simulation
  • Prototype hardware using 3D printers and CNC machines
  • Select electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic hardware
  • Integrate motors, sensors, and cabling into mechanical assemblies
  • Troubleshoot and optimize hardware and automation systems
  • Lead root-cause investigations for field failures and manufacturing defects
  • Lead mechanical risk assessments and ensure industrial safety compliance
  • Implement GD&T, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturing, and design for assembly
  • Define customer requirements, validate feasibility, and coordinate material procurement
  • Maintain BOMs and PDM records for inventory and deployment
  • Execute value analysis and value engineering cost-reduction efforts
  • Manage machine-shop and component-supplier relationships
  • Recommend validation and testing protocols
  • Oversee the mechanical product lifecycle
  • Mentor junior engineers
