About the Role

You will serve as the founding engineer for photorealistic 3D rendering. You will define the rendering architecture, build physically based lighting and material systems, optimize GPU rendering performance, and integrate 3D capabilities with video, motion graphics, and compositing workflows.

Requirements

  • Deep production experience building physically based renderers, path tracers, or ray-traced or hybrid game-engine lighting.
  • Strong knowledge of light transport, the rendering equation, Monte Carlo integration, importance sampling, material models, and denoising.
  • Hands-on GPU ray-tracing experience, including acceleration structures, BVHs, hardware ray-tracing APIs, and compute-based fallbacks.
  • Understanding of modern rasterization pipelines and hybrid rendering.
  • Experience with Metal, Vulkan, Direct3D, or WebGPU, including compute shaders, GPU profiling, and GPU debugging.
  • Proficiency in Rust or C++ and strong knowledge of memory, concurrency, and performance.
  • Strong knowledge of linear algebra, geometry, probability, and sampling.
  • Experience owning complex technical projects and making architectural decisions in ambiguous environments.

Responsibilities

  • Define the architecture for photorealistic 3D rendering across Metal, Vulkan, Direct3D, and WebGPU.
  • Build light-transport capabilities including global illumination, reflections, refraction, soft shadows, and volumetrics.
  • Build physically based material, lighting, and camera models.
  • Own image quality through sampling, antialiasing, accumulation, denoising, and firefly suppression.
  • Scale complex scenes using acceleration structures, instancing, culling, and memory management.
  • Integrate 3D rendering with video, motion graphics, compositing, ACES color management, and render passes.
  • Make rendering predictable and robust through performance budgets, profiling, and headless batch rendering.
  • Design 3D APIs, scene representations, validation errors, previews, and render-cost estimation for people and AI agents.
  • Help hire and grow the 3D rendering team.
