About the Role
You will own the design of complex electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical mechanisms for autonomous aircraft. You will take designs from concept through CAD, analysis, tolerance stackups, material selection, drawing release, prototyping, testing, and iteration. You will collaborate across engineering disciplines, support builds and flight testing, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- At least 10 years of mechanical or mechanism design experience
- Strong CAD skills
- Kinematic analysis and optimization experience
- Structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods
- Experience with modal, nonlinear, linear, buckling, and fatigue FEA
- Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stackups
- Materials selection experience
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced cross-functional teams
Responsibilities
- Design electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical mechanisms for autonomous aircraft
- Own concept development, CAD design, analysis, tolerance stackups, material selection, and drawing release
- Perform structural and kinematic calculations and preliminary FEA
- Prototype, test, and iterate mechanism designs
- Collaborate with electrical, avionics, hydraulics, flight controls, and propulsion teams
- Mentor junior engineers and set technical direction
- Support pre-production builds, prototype integration, ground testing, and flight testing
