About the Role
Design, implement, and maintain scalable brokerage systems and back-office services for Japan, including gRPC microservices, REST APIs, financial integrations, regulatory requirements, incident response, on-call support, mentoring, and regional technical strategy.
Requirements
- Native or JLPT N1 Japanese fluency
- Business-level English fluency
- Experience designing complex financial systems, including double-entry accounting
- Understanding of accounting principles, ledgers, and reconciliation
- Experience building scalable, high-availability, multi-currency financial applications
- Familiarity with financial regulatory compliance, preferably in Japan
- Proficiency in at least one statically typed language such as Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, C#, Scala, or C++
- Experience with financial APIs, market data integrations, and trade settlement
- Strong computer science and software architecture fundamentals
- Experience with domain-driven and event-driven design
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote distributed team
- Ability to lead and troubleshoot incidents during Japan business hours
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
- Design highly scalable brokerage systems for the Japan market
- Develop middle- and back-office systems including gRPC microservices and REST APIs
- Integrate third-party vendors and market infrastructure such as JPX, JSCC, JASDEC, banks, and identity providers
- Enhance core frameworks to support multiple languages, currencies, and markets
- Translate Japanese regulatory and vendor requirements into technical specifications
- Collaborate with global teams across time zones
- Troubleshoot incidents and production bugs
- Participate in on-call rotations during Japan business hours
- Mentor teammates and contribute to regional recruitment
- Architect and implement solutions aligned with strategic objectives
