About the Role
The Senior Simulation Engineer will join Symbotic's Simulation Team within Software Engineering, developing simulation systems, digital twins, and virtual environments that support robotics design, validation, testing, deployment, and operational planning. The role requires strong Gz-Sim, ROS2, C++, and Python expertise, plus experience with complex simulation or robotics software.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with simulation, robotics, optimization, or virtual environment systems.
- Professional expertise with Gz-Sim and ROS2.
- Mastery of C++ and Python; C# and JavaScript are a bonus.
- Strong ability to design, implement, test, optimize, and maintain complex simulation software.
- Hands-on experience with simulations, digital twins, virtual environments, or system modeling tools for real-world engineering applications.
- Experience with faster-than-real-time and multi-fidelity simulation modeling is a plus.
- Experience with cloud-based simulation, distributed workloads, or scalable simulation infrastructure is a plus.
- Strong teamwork, communication, time management, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
- Working proficiency in verbal and written English and ability to communicate technical concepts to leadership stakeholders.
- Ability to travel up to 10% and hold a valid driver's license.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain simulation systems, tools, and virtual environments for robotic warehouse automation.
- Develop faster-than-real-time, scalable, and optimized simulation environments.
- Build simulation capabilities across component, robot, fleet, and system levels.
- Evaluate simulation tools and improve performance, scalability, accuracy, and usability.
- Support simulation coverage for robots, perception, controls, routing, fleet coordination, warehouse operations, and system-wide scenarios.
- Collaborate with robotics, controls, perception, cloud, QA, and product teams.
- Provide technical insights, trade-off analysis, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
- Mentor engineers, share technical knowledge, and promote engineering best practices.
- Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, design notes, configuration guides, and operational instructions.
- Stay current with simulation technologies, robotics frameworks, digital twins, physics engines, rendering engines, cloud simulation, and AI-assisted development tools.
