Required and preferred rules are kept separate and reflect the wording in the original posting.

About the Role

You will architect and build production-quality firmware test automation frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure for real photonic hardware. You will integrate testing into CI/CD, develop telemetry and results pipelines, debug failures across the firmware and hardware stack, and help shape testability, diagnostics, and monitoring.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, primarily on embedded products, including test framework and infrastructure design
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience architecting and building an automation framework or HIL system from scratch that is adopted and used daily by other engineers
  • Strong Python skills, including fixture and abstraction layers, hardware drivers, and plugin or configuration architectures
  • Working fluency in embedded C/C++
  • Experience owning CI/CD pipelines that run tests on physical hardware
  • Track record of delivering robust automation amid fast-changing requirements and hardware
  • Capacity to comply with federally mandated U.S. export control laws

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and roadmap of the firmware test automation framework across products, targets, sites, and teams
  • Design and build stable automation for new firmware features and hardware
  • Build and operate hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure, including fixtures, device farms, power and reset control, instrument integration, and CI orchestration
  • Define test strategy, plans, and reporting, and lead test plan reviews
  • Integrate firmware testing into CI/CD so changes are built, flashed, exercised on hardware, and reported automatically
  • Own framework reliability and flaky-test metrics
  • Build results, telemetry, and log pipelines for triage, trend analysis, and release decisions
  • Debug failures across firmware, boards, instruments, fixtures, and test code
  • Participate in firmware design reviews to improve testability and diagnostics
  • Integrate with CMIS, OpenBMC, and DMTF interfaces and debug embedded systems using GDB, JTAG, and logic analyzers
  • Define diagnostics and monitoring architecture for photonic transceivers
  • Mentor engineers on test architecture and write documentation for non-specialists

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision health care plan
  • Retirement savings matching program
  • Life insurance, including basic, voluntary, and AD&D coverage
  • Generous vacation, sick time, and public holidays
  • Paid family leave
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Training and development
  • Commuter benefits
  • Flexible hybrid workplace model
  • Equity grants for eligible full-time employees
