About the Role

You will provide full-cycle accounting support across multiple regions and communicate financial results to clients and management. You will prepare GAAP-compliant reports, journal entries, reconciliations, distributions, tax forms, and ledger activity. You will review reporting packages and invoice workflows, investigate historical transactions, support audits and monthly closes, research applicable accounting regulations, and handle ad hoc assignments. You will also guide Property Accountants, answer complex accounting questions, improve workflows, and cover managerial responsibilities when needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent preferred
  • At least 3 years of real estate accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience highly preferred
  • Proficiency with Excel and Google Workspace products
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to varying environments, tasks, responsibilities, and people
  • Ability to plan, organize, establish courses of action, and evaluate results
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time and workload under pressure
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external clients
  • Ability to manage change, ambiguity, risk, and uncertainty
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Must not require H-1B visa sponsorship
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary accounting resource and subject matter expert for Property Accountants
  • Guide Property Accountants through complex accounting questions, technical issues, and workflow challenges
  • Respond to client inquiries about financial reports, account activity, and accounting matters
  • Cover managerial responsibilities in the Property Accounting Manager's absence
  • Oversee monthly close processes, distributions, and reporting deadlines when acting as manager
  • Review financial reporting packages for accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance
  • Mentor Property Accountants in technical accounting, internal processes, and best practices
  • Identify workflow efficiencies, process improvements, and training opportunities
  • Perform daily accounting functions for multiple regions
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare monthly accrual journal entries, financial statements, and reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly client distributions
  • Review and maintain general ledger accuracy
  • Post general ledger activity and reconcile balance sheets
  • Maintain subsidiary ledgers
  • Support ad hoc projects, monthly closes, and distributions
  • Monitor cash receipt postings, tenant billings, and billing adjustments
  • Perform tenant ledger reconciliations as needed
  • Review invoice coding and workflows for compliance with capitalization policies and timely vendor payments
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure accurate and complete financial packages
  • Research historical cash transactions and respond to Portfolio Managers and Regional Directors
  • Provide accounting details and assistance for internal and external audits
  • Research new state accounting laws and regulations as needed
  • Prepare annual 1099 and 1096 reporting for vendors and the IRS
  • Prepare quarterly Forms 592 and 588 for the Franchise Tax Board as needed
  • Perform ad hoc assignments
