About the Role
You will provide full-lifecycle mechanical engineering support for data centers from design and construction through commissioning, turnover, and operations. You will review mechanical systems, improve reliability and maintenance programs, investigate failures, manage technical standards, and support asset lifecycle and risk management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline
- 8-10 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience
- At least 5 years supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, central plants, industrial facilities, or high-availability environments
- Experience across design review, construction support, commissioning, turnover, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operations
- Knowledge of cooling plants, air handling systems, pumps, heat rejection equipment, piping, valves, controls, and redundancy configurations
- Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, equipment submittals, commissioning scripts, test reports, O&M manuals, and maintenance documentation
- Experience with preventative maintenance, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, asset lifecycle management, and operational risk assessment
- Professional Engineer license or Engineer-in-Training certification preferred
- Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier concepts and ASHRAE guidance preferred
- BMS, predictive maintenance, thermal modeling, CFD, CMMS, or reliability analytics experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering input throughout site selection, design, construction, and commissioning
- Review mechanical designs for readiness, maintainability, redundancy, resiliency, and reliability
- Evaluate chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, heat exchangers, piping, valves, and water treatment systems
- Review commissioning plans, performance tests, failure-mode tests, and sequence validation
- Validate mechanical alarms, control sequences, set points, trends, and BMS visibility
- Ensure turnover packages contain required manuals, drawings, asset data, warranties, and maintenance materials
- Support operations during incidents, equipment failures, and reliability concerns
- Analyze mechanical performance trends and lead root cause analyses
- Develop corrective and preventive actions
- Improve alarm rationalization, monitoring, trending, and sequence performance
- Define and improve preventative maintenance standards
- Develop asset criticality frameworks and support capital replacement forecasts
- Own water treatment and chemistry monitoring programs
- Develop mechanical standards, operating playbooks, troubleshooting guides, and governance processes
