About the Role
You will lead the design, analysis, integration, and lifecycle delivery of mechanical systems for a launch and recovery vehicle. You will establish engineering standards, own reliability and failure analyses, support testing and field operations, and resolve design issues. You will also mentor, hire, and guide mechanical engineers while aligning priorities, risks, and technical decisions across functions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline
- 10 or more years of mechanical design experience for aerospace, ground-support equipment, or ruggedized hardware systems
- 3 or more years of engineering leadership experience
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software and GD&T-compliant modeling and drawings
- Experience developing drawing standards and design or manufacturing specifications
- Familiarity with ASME, ISO, ASTM, or industry-specific standards
- Experience with engineering analysis methods including FEA, stress, thermal, tolerance stack-up, fatigue, or fluid flow
- Ownership of two to three product development cycles from concept through production and customer sustainment
- Cross-functional collaboration experience
- Written and verbal technical communication skills
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and integrate mechanical systems and subsystems
- Establish mechanical engineering standards, templates, specifications, and best practices
- Own mechanical deliverables from concept and prototyping through production and field support
- Lead failure-mode analysis and reliability modeling
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, program management, and flight operations
- Provide technical support during ground testing, flight testing, demonstrations, and field operations
- Lead, mentor, develop, recruit, and hire mechanical engineers
- Manage team priorities, bandwidth, risks, and technical tradeoffs
- Document and communicate design decisions, assumptions, and tradeoffs
