About the Role
You will lead the team that delivers technical hedge accounting excellence across the managed services client portfolio, acting as the subject matter expert on complex ASC 815 and IFRS 9 questions. You'll own the quality of every hedge accounting deliverable, from documentation and effectiveness testing to journal entries, disclosures, and audit support. You'll develop the Derivative Accountants and broader team, and drive the process discipline that makes the practice scalable by building workflows, templates, and operational habits. You'll combine deep technical authority with a builder's mindset, working directly with clients on complex hedge de-designation conversations while also shaping team processes and standards.
Requirements
- CPA required; advanced degree in Accounting or Finance a plus
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 7 years focused on derivative instruments and hedge accounting under ASC 815 and IFRS 9
- Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams
- Deep technical fluency in ASC 815 and IFRS 9
- Strong understanding of derivative instruments across asset classes: interest rate swaps, cross-currency swaps, FX forwards, options, and commodity derivatives
- Demonstrated track record of designing and implementing process improvements
- Experience with hedge accounting platforms (Ripple Treasury, Chatham Financial, Reval, FIS Quantum, or comparable TMS) strongly preferred
- Comfortable managing multiple client engagements simultaneously
- Strong communication skills
Responsibilities
- Serve as the company's primary SME for hedge accounting under ASC 815 and IFRS 9
- Review and approve hedge documentation, designation memos, risk management objectives, and effectiveness testing methodologies
- Oversee quantitative and qualitative effectiveness assessments on a prospective and retrospective basis
- Guide clients through structuring new hedging relationships to achieve qualification and optimize accounting outcomes
- Translate FASB and IASB standard updates into actionable impact summaries for clients and internal teams
- Lead audit support at the Director level and engage directly with external auditors
- Manage, mentor, and develop the derivative accounting team
- Set performance expectations, provide coaching, and deliver feedback to accelerate career growth
- Own resource planning across client engagements
- Build a team culture grounded in technical rigor and continuous improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements across the hedge accounting lifecycle
- Develop, document, and maintain standardized workflows, templates, and close checklists
- Evaluate and leverage technology solutions to increase accuracy and reduce manual effort
- Establish and track team KPIs for delivery quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction
- Lead retrospectives after each close cycle
- Serve as the senior escalation point for client inquiries and complex accounting positions
- Build trusted relationships with client treasury, accounting, and finance leadership
- Partner with product, technology, and client success teams to inform platform capabilities
