About the Role
You will lead functional-safety design and verification for robotic systems and support regulatory compliance. You will perform safety analyses, define safety requirements and architectures, implement safety solutions, create compliance documentation, execute validation plans, develop operating procedures, and support customer-site safety systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field
- 10 or more years of functional safety experience in robotics, automation, manufacturing, aerospace, or automotive
- Knowledge of standards including ANSI/RIA R15.06, ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO 10218, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, NFPA 79, UL 1740, UL 3100, IEC 60204, IEC 61496, IEC 61508, and IEC 62061
- Familiarity with CE directives including the Machinery Regulation and EMC Directive
- Experience with Structured Text, Ladder Logic, or Function Block Diagrams
- Experience with electronic systems including PLCs, microcontrollers, or mixed-signal designs
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT/FSoE, and MODBUS
- Familiarity with functional safety components and market vendors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on safety analyses including risk assessment, FMEA, FTA, and SIL determination
- Define functional safety requirements for robotic systems, subsystems, and components
- Design safety architectures with safety features, redundancy, fault detection, and fault tolerance
- Support functional safety solution implementation, component selection, and programming
- Create safety and compliance documentation
- Define and execute safety validation and verification plans
- Provide expertise on industry standards and regulations
- Develop standard operating procedures and tools for training, troubleshooting, and maintaining functional safety systems at customer sites
- Maintain knowledge of safety and compliance trends, regulations, and technologies
