About the Role
You will lead OpenSea's illicit finance and sanctions compliance program, running wallet screening, alert management, and enforcement processes. You will investigate and adjudicate edge cases and make disposition decisions, execute risk and country assessments, and deliver compliance reporting. You will own privacy and data regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), provide privacy risk analysis for product features, and support regulatory filings and contract review. You will work closely with Engineering and Product, operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment, and help modernize legal processes through AI tools and process innovation.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD)
- 5–7+ years of experience in sanctions/OFAC compliance, AML, or financial crimes
- Working knowledge of privacy laws and regulatory frameworks including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA
- Strong understanding of blockchain technology, crypto, and digital asset markets
- Proven judgment and disposition decision-making experience
- Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and business stakeholders
- Ability to operate autonomously in a lean, fast-paced environment
- Enthusiasm for AI tools and process innovation
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve OFAC sanctions and counter-illicit finance compliance program
- Manage wallet screening, alert management, and enforcement of controls
- Interpret and advise on changes to sanctions regimes
- Investigate and adjudicate edge cases and make disposition decisions
- Execute annual and country risk assessments
- Prepare and deliver quarterly compliance reporting to senior leadership
- Lead GDPR and other privacy and data regulatory compliance (including CCPA/CPRA)
- Conduct privacy risk analysis for new features and integrations
- Support contract negotiation as capacity allows
- Track legislative and regulatory developments and flag business implications
- Provide input on regulatory submissions and filings
- Assess legal and regulatory risk holistically
