About the Role
You will develop and deploy machine learning capabilities for national security challenges. You will conduct experiments, build software systems, present technical work, lead research projects, manage stakeholders, develop new project proposals, line-manage staff, and represent the group to senior partners.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree plus significant professional experience involving computer programming and advanced algorithmic, statistical, or numerical techniques
- Experience applying AI, data science, statistical, and algorithmic techniques to real problems
- Experience with data at scale, research data management, and complex data visualisation
- Fluency in modern programming languages used in machine learning
- Experience producing reliable software and reproducible analyses using version control, issue tracking, automated testing, and package management
- Experience with containerised microservice deployment, Docker, Kubernetes, and public cloud platforms
- Deep understanding of Defence and National Security problems
- Significant experience developing and deploying technology or leading change in highly regulated sectors
- Experience managing senior stakeholders and developing partnership opportunities
- Experience leading multiple projects and teams and line-managing others
- Eligibility for Developed Vetting clearance
- Right to work in the UK
Responsibilities
- Understand national security partner problems and identify appropriate solution approaches
- Maintain knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence research
- Own a domain challenge area or methodology
- Train and deploy machine learning models
- Apply data science, statistical, and algorithmic techniques to data
- Build and deploy microservices, data systems, platforms, user interfaces, and visualisations
- Use testing, version control, and collaboration tooling to create reusable software artefacts
- Document and present capabilities, processes, and systems
- Provide technical project management and leadership for research projects
- Line-manage staff and support career development
- Develop projects and author research proposals
- Represent the group to senior stakeholders and deputise for the group lead
