About the Role
You will set research priorities and lead a portfolio on national-security applications of AI. You will oversee research delivery, manage and mentor researchers, coordinate data-focused analysis, and ensure grant deliverables are completed on schedule. You will produce and edit policy publications, present findings to policy audiences, engage funders, monitor relevant developments, and contribute expertise through public events and media engagements.
Requirements
- Graduate degree in a relevant field
- At least 5 years of public service in senior roles or 10 years of progressive private-sector experience
- Experience in an analytic or operations research role within a national security-focused organization
- Network across Washington, DC national security policy and adjacent policy organizations
- Research, writing, briefing, and management ability with limited supervision
- Project or team management experience
- Mentoring and coaching experience
- Data interpretation and visualization

Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a strategic research portfolio on national-security applications of AI
- Guide research projects from ideation through publication and engagement
- Coordinate data-focused research plans, data needs, resourcing, documentation, and risk management
- Supervise, mentor, and coach researchers and affiliates
- Edit and assure the quality of written research products
- Manage the delegated team budget and track expenditures
- Deliver grant commitments and contribute to funder reports
- Prepare and present project and people updates to leadership
- Monitor national security policy and relevant technology developments
- Produce publications individually and as a co-author
- Participate in public events and media engagements
- Deliver presentations and briefs to policy-making audiences
- Identify and engage potential funders
- Contribute to grant proposals and concept notes
