About the Role
You will support the design and integration of mechanical mechanisms for autonomous aircraft, including potential gearbox and power-transmission systems. You will create CAD models and engineering documentation, perform foundational analyses, build and test prototypes, support aircraft integration, and investigate technical issues with guidance from experienced engineers.
Requirements
- 0–1 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
- Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Experience using 3D CAD software through academic, internship, research, student-team, or project work
- Ability to create or interpret basic engineering drawings
- Familiarity with dimensional tolerancing and GD&T fundamentals
- Ability to perform and document foundational engineering calculations
- Hands-on interest in designing, building, integrating, or testing mechanical hardware
- Problem-solving, organization, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to complete defined tasks with guidance and collaborate in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
- Support the design and integration of mechanical mechanisms for autonomous aircraft
- Create and update 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and interface documentation
- Complete component sizing, material selection, tolerance analysis, and mechanical packaging tasks
- Perform foundational structural, kinematic, and machine-design calculations
- Assist with finite element analysis
- Support the selection and integration of gears, bearings, shafts, splines, seals, fasteners, and lubrication components
- Build, inspect, test, and iterate prototype hardware
- Support pre-production builds, aircraft integration, and ground and flight testing
- Investigate technical issues and contribute to root-cause and corrective-action activities
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and test teams
