About the Role
You will design and analyze mechanical systems for nuclear and radiological facilities. You will define requirements, inspect conditions, create engineering documents and analyses, coordinate installation and testing, support procurement and construction, troubleshoot issues, and prepare technical reports and estimates.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Minimum of eight years of design-engineering experience for custom equipment and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, materials, and fabrication design
- Skill with 3D CAD software
- Experience with Product Data Management systems
- Ability to support multiple projects and changing priorities
- Strong communication skills
- Complete a pre-hire physical
- Obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge
Responsibilities
- Define and record project design requirements, assumptions, connections, and standards
- Check existing conditions through records review, site visits, measurements, and inspections
- Create calculations, analyses, specifications, and design documents
- Coordinate installation, testing, safety, and system interfaces
- Ensure design packages document implementation inspections, tests, turnover steps, records, and updates
- Resolve conflicts among requirements, design details, vendor information, and field conditions
- Provide technical guidance for purchasing, fabrication, construction, and project completion
- Lead field checks, plan tests, and correct issues
- Design or improve structures, systems, and components in Hazard Category II and III nuclear facilities
- Perform engineering analyses and prepare technical reports and calculations
- Use CAD tools to share designs and support prototyping or simulation
- Write engineering specifications and review external submissions
- Prepare studies and cost estimates
- Troubleshoot system problems and recommend solutions
- Organize project data and report technical progress
