About the Role
You will lead technical safety, reliability, and performance work for battery energy storage systems. You will coordinate safety improvements and audits, troubleshoot equipment, analyze operational data, lead root-cause analyses and modernization projects, develop maintenance procedures, and guide engineers and operations personnel.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in engineering or beyond and 10 years of experience, or equivalent
- Knowledge of CPUC BESS requirements and facility audits
- Ability to support operations during emergent BESS safety issues
- Advanced data analysis skills beyond Excel
- Knowledge of Python or R for operational-data processing
- Knowledge of BESS equipment OEMs
- Ability to lead and educate engineers on BESS systems
- Knowledge of numerical models for battery aging and thermal runaway
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 35%
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Project, and Visio
Responsibilities
- Coordinate BESS safety-system design, deployment, and audit corrections
- Support troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance of electrical equipment and controls
- Mentor reliability and performance engineers in operational-data analysis
- Lead efforts to correct negative battery-project performance
- Provide expertise on battery safety, regulations, fire suppression, and fire prevention
- Prepare for and execute corrective actions from BESS audits
- Coordinate improvement technologies for the battery fleet
- Monitor BESS technology and safety innovations
- Conduct technical due diligence and develop O&M cost assumptions
- Lead projects to improve asset performance and operations
- Perform root-cause analyses and develop recovery plans
- Develop preventive-maintenance procedures
- Assist with operating procedures and training
- Lead optimization and asset-modernization efforts
