About Samsung Next

Samsung Next invests in founders pursuing groundbreaking technologies across four key sectors: Artificial Intelligence & Intelligent Machines, Healthtech, Consumer Services, and Frontier Technology. The firm invests across all stages with check sizes ranging from $50K to $25MM, typically acting as a minority, non-lead investor in funding rounds, and prioritizes a streamlined process without investment committee meetings. Follow-on investments are driven by clear commercial opportunity rather than strict pro rata participation. As part of Samsung, Next positions itself as a strategic guide for startups, providing honest guidance and navigating Samsung's extensive ecosystem on behalf of founders. The team, based at a hub in Mountain View, CA, describes itself as nimble and curious, with a culture centered on caring deeply about founders and colleagues, embracing diverse perspectives, and driving toward shared goals.

About the Role

You'll join Samsung Next as an Investor, working directly with experienced Managing Directors to build and sharpen your venture investing skills. No prior investing experience is required, and over a three to four year program you'll take on as much responsibility as you can handle. You'll be exposed to a large volume of deals, source opportunities independently, and gain experience with startups across many stages and verticals, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, robotics, and edge or on-device compute infrastructure. You'll draw on a technical background and network in the AI space to evaluate highly technical, early-stage investments, distill complex technical papers, and communicate sharp, well-reasoned points of view. This is a hybrid role requiring you to be in the office 3-4 days per week, with weekly evening and/or early morning meetings due to the global nature of the work, and occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in computer science or engineering related field
  • 3+ years of highly successful full time technical experience from industry or startups, or equivalent experience gained parallel to research for an advanced technical degree
  • Strong domain knowledge of AI, Robotics, or Edge/Cloud Infrastructure
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity and passion for technology and startups
  • Ability to thrive in an unstructured environment playing many roles
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships, particularly in the startup ecosystem
  • High EQ and team-oriented contribution
  • Outstanding analytical and communication skills
  • Availability to travel regularly
  • Previous angel or personal investing background a plus
  • Experience navigating a large corporate organization a plus

  • Evaluate early-stage investment opportunities with thorough due diligence on technology, team, market, and product
  • Communicate investment cases effectively from deal discussion through deal closure
  • Contribute to learnings and insights by developing informed points of view through written investment memos and active participation in deal discussion
  • Provide a supportive and responsive experience to founders and builders
