About the Role
You will lead and develop the Malta compliance team, set strategic direction, and provide compliance training and advice to business stakeholders. You will maintain compliance policies, procedures, controls, and frameworks; partner with Data, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Product, and Risk teams; and monitor Maltese and EU regulatory requirements. You will oversee compliance reviews, investigations, risk assessments, policy updates, and training. You will advise business teams, coordinate with second- and third-line functions, participate in Board meetings as needed, and prepare reports for management and the Board.
Requirements
- 10+ years of regulatory compliance experience in financial services, payments, fintech, or cryptocurrency.
- Experience leading an effective compliance management program aligned with Malta and EU standards.
- Leadership experience with senior business stakeholders.
- People management skills.
- Experience as a regulated compliance approved person, such as SMF16 or equivalent, or sufficient senior compliance experience.
- Working knowledge of developing compliance policies for EU financial regulations, including MiFID, MiCA, and GDPR.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the crypto industry.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Malta compliance team and provide strategic direction, training, and compliance advice to business stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, controls, and frameworks.
- Partner with Data, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Product, and Risk teams to implement the compliance management program.
- Monitor and assess compliance with Maltese and EU laws, regulations, and policies.
- Oversee compliance reviews, investigations, policy updates, and compliance risk assessments.
- Participate in Board committee and sub-committee meetings as needed.
- Conduct and oversee the company training schedule.
- Coordinate with second- and third-line teams to maintain a regulatory-compliant control environment.
- Advise business team members on compliance issues.
- Prepare compliance reports and materials for management, the Board, and stakeholders.
- Assist with special projects.
