About the Role

You will join the Business Affairs department in the Los Angeles office as an expert in motion pictures, reporting to the Head of Business Affairs. You will handle a variety of motion picture development, production and distribution projects, drafting and negotiating agreements across the full lifecycle of a project. You will act as a trusted business partner to agents and executives, offering guidance on deal strategy, and you will apply practical business judgment to balance business needs against acceptable levels of risk while building strong relationships with internal and external clients.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to CA Bar
  • 7+ years of transactional legal experience, with 4+ years working on motion picture entertainment agreements
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating talent agreements (actors, writers, producers, directors), production services agreements, intellectual property, guild/union agreements, and/or production legal work related to scripted audiovisual content
  • Experience with independent film agreements highly desired
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving approach
  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Handle a variety of motion picture development, production and distribution projects on a day-to-day basis
  • Negotiate actor, writer, producer and director agreements
  • Negotiate rights agreements, finance agreements, co-production agreements, option agreements, distribution agreements, and other agreements
  • Act as an entrepreneurial business partner with UTA agents and executives
  • Provide decision-making support and guidance on deal-making strategy
  • Apply problem-solving skills and business judgment to balance business needs and risk
  • Foster positive long-term internal and external client relationships
