About the Role
You will lead a cross-functional engineering squad responsible for delivering reliable systems for financial services. You will shape the roadmap with your Product partner, guide delivery and technical outcomes, review architecture and designs, and make pragmatic trade-offs. You will coach engineers, support hiring and onboarding, manage performance, protect team focus, and improve reliability through SLOs, error budgets, alert quality, on-call practices, and incident reviews. You will also collaborate across Product, Design, other squads, leadership, and the People team to align priorities and address risks early.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years managing engineers
- Technical depth in building and operating distributed systems at scale
- Experience building, growing, and retaining high-performing teams
- Experience leading remote-first distributed teams
- Experience owning business-critical services where accuracy and reliability are paramount
- Structured and disciplined planning skills
- Pragmatic decision-making skills
- Strong communication and mediation skills
- Ability to provide and receive direct feedback with kindness
- Ability to simplify complex topics for non-engineers
- Experience with financial infrastructure such as trading, treasury, exchange, or financial infrastructure is strongly preferred
- Experience with CEX integrations, custody or treasury systems, onchain swaps, DeFi protocols, reconciliation, or transaction and address screening
- Personal or professional experience with crypto or web3
- Experience with Rust and TypeScript services on AWS
- Experience with Grafana-based observability and infrastructure-as-code
- Experience introducing SLOs, error budgets, and DORA-style delivery metrics
Responsibilities
- Run planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives with the Product Manager
- Set team OKRs with Product and translate company goals into squad priorities
- Hold the team accountable to its goals and clear blockers
- Conduct regular one-on-ones and coach engineers across seniority levels
- Build career paths and provide honest and kind feedback
- Run fair performance reviews and address underperformance early
- Review designs and architecture and challenge technical trade-offs
- Foster a culture of high-quality code
- Own SLOs, error budgets, alert quality, on-call health, and blameless incident reviews
- Balance roadmap work, technical debt, and operational work
- Align and mediate across Product, Design, other squads, and leadership
- Protect the team's focus and surface risks early
- Partner with the People team on hiring and calibrated interviews
- Own candidate onboarding and time-to-productivity
- Monitor team health, delivery risk, and design drift using data and judgment
