About the Role
You will lead the open source Ray Data engineering team and own its technical direction and roadmap. You will drive projects from design review through release, manage planning and on-call operations, hire and coach engineers, and remain hands-on with design reviews, code reviews, and production escalations. You will collaborate with external contributors, maintainers, customers, and internal partners to prioritize workloads, improve performance and reliability, and communicate the team's work through talks, tutorials, blog posts, and Ray Summit.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of directly managing engineers
- Experience building and managing high-performing distributed teams
- Experience managing teams across geographic locations
- Knowledge of distributed systems and data-intensive systems
- Python
- Performance-sensitive systems code
- Hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance management

Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction and roadmap for open source Ray Data
- Drive key projects from design review through release
- Hire, coach, and grow distributed systems and data infrastructure engineers
- Manage day-to-day planning, prioritization, project tracking, on-call, and release quality
- Review designs and code, investigate performance, and handle critical production escalations
- Collaborate with external contributors and maintainers and manage proposal, issue, and pull-request triage
- Partner on cross-library features and end-to-end performance
- Turn customer workloads into roadmap priorities
- Communicate the team's work through talks, tutorials, blog posts, and Ray Summit
