About the Role
Lead substation and grid engineering for data center projects. Define technical standards, manage load and generation interconnection applications and studies, oversee equipment and protection design, support projects through energization, manage technical risks, and lead Staff Engineers while advising commercial and development stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 8–12+ years of substation design, protection and controls, or grid engineering experience
- Ability to interpret and produce electrical one-lines, protection schemes, and system studies
- Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
- Experience managing load or generator interconnection applications
- Ability to advise commercial and development teams on interconnection and grid topics
Responsibilities
- Define requirements and design standards for substations, transformers, switchgear, protection, and metering
- Coordinate one-line diagrams, protection schemes, and redundancy strategies
- Oversee fault and reliability studies
- Define electrical topology for on-site generation integration
- Establish generation protection and controls philosophy
- Guide equipment specifications for generation and substation equipment
- Manage load and generator interconnection applications and studies
- Serve as technical contact for utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and transmission owners
- Coordinate interconnection agreement technical exhibits
- Track interconnection queue risks and grid-upgrade requirements
- Lead and develop Staff Engineers
- Review designs and ensure quality across projects
- Support projects from design through energization
- Identify and mitigate substation and grid design risks
