About the Role
You will lead an engineering team defining, validating, and deploying advanced grid-integration and control solutions for renewable, storage, hybrid, and microgrid applications. You will set technical direction, oversee modeling and testing, support project execution and commissioning, resolve controls issues, and improve engineering standards and equipment strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, controls engineering, or a closely related field.
- Substantial engineering experience in utility-scale renewable generation, battery energy storage, inverter-based resources, plant controls, microgrids, or adjacent power-system applications.
- People-management experience including planning, prioritization, coaching, performance management, and technical-professional development.
- Strong knowledge of renewable and battery energy storage plant controls, inverter controls, grid-forming technology, plant power controllers, energy-management systems, and grid integration.
- Experience with technology evaluation, technical diligence, model review, test planning, results interpretation, and project or equipment decisions.
- Working knowledge of EMT analysis and PSCAD-based studies.
- Experience supporting commissioning, witness testing, field troubleshooting, event analysis, or operations response for complex power and controls systems.
- Strong organization, project-management, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lead through influence across multidisciplinary, geographically distributed teams and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Set the team vision, priorities, technical roadmap, operating model, and resource plan.
- Assign work, manage scope, schedule, budget, dependencies, decisions, and technical risk.
- Provide technical leadership during contract negotiations involving advanced grid-connected systems and controls.
- Develop scalable engineering processes, templates, design criteria, test methods, reviews, and decision records.
- Direct the development and review of control philosophies, functional requirements, control architectures, and communications interfaces.
- Guide solutions for grid-forming operation, islanding, black start, regulation, state-of-charge management, and coordinated resource operation.
- Translate grid-code, interconnection, utility, customer, and operational requirements into controls and equipment requirements.
- Lead technology evaluation of inverters, power-conversion systems, plant controllers, energy-management systems, and microgrid controllers.
- Oversee EMT studies, model-based design, testbenches, CHIL, and PHIL validation programs.
- Define test objectives, acceptance criteria, traceability, issue-resolution workflows, and recommendations.
- Provide engineering leadership through development, design, testing, commissioning, and witness testing.
- Diagnose complex grid, inverter, plant-controller, and controls interactions.
- Lead root-cause and corrective-action efforts for significant controls or grid-performance issues.
- Convert field findings and commissioning lessons into updated engineering standards and test protocols.
- Represent grid and controls requirements in equipment strategy, supplier, contracting, and technology-roadmap discussions.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical, operational, schedule, and commercial trade-offs.
- Communicate technical risks, options, assumptions, evidence, and recommendations to technical and executive audiences.
