About the Role

You will own the Customer.io platform and its technical foundation for customer communications across email, push, in-app messaging, and SMS. You will design data models, integrations, workflows, governance, automation, security controls, deliverability practices, and quality assurance processes. You will translate business needs into scalable CRM capabilities, enable marketing teams through reusable components and documentation, and maintain compliant communication standards across products and markets.

Requirements

  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience owning a marketing automation, CRM, or customer engagement platform in a technical capacity.
  • Hands-on architecture and administration experience with Customer.io or a comparable platform.
  • SQL proficiency and experience with data warehouses and modern data pipelines.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven data models, and identity resolution.
  • Knowledge of Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for email and in-app content.
  • Ability to design maintainable and scalable systems.
  • Experience handling personal data with a security- and privacy-first approach, including consent management and GDPR.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working across Marketing, Commercial, Product, Data, and Engineering.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Customer.io data layer, including objects, attributes, events, and identifiers.
  • Design and maintain data pipelines, schemas, event contracts, and data-freshness requirements.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for stale, missing, or malformed data.
  • Build modular, reusable journeys, triggers, and segments.
  • Establish naming conventions, versioning, documentation, and deprecation routines.
  • Design workflows for volume, throughput, rate limits, and platform constraints.
  • Design shared workspace structures, data models, and templates for multiple products and brands.
  • Manage frequency capping, priority rules, and suppression logic.
  • Translate commercial requirements into data, segmentation, and workflow architecture.
  • Maintain and communicate the platform roadmap.
  • Create reusable templates, components, documented segments, and guardrails for marketing teams.
  • Run enablement sessions and maintain practical documentation.
  • Identify and remove manual, repetitive, and error-prone CRM processes.
  • Evaluate and implement suitable AI capabilities for CRM operations.
  • Apply data minimisation, least-privilege access, retention rules, and handling standards.
  • Maintain consent, opt-out, and preference models across channels and brands.
  • Support GDPR, access reviews, vendor risk, compliance, and audit evidence.
  • Build compliant targeting and suppression logic by market.
  • Own QA processes including test sends, rendering checks, link validation, and pre-send review.
  • Manage deliverability, domain and IP reputation, authentication, list hygiene, and complaint rates.
  • Define approval gates, no-send windows, rollback procedures, and incident response.
  • Own experimentation design, holdout groups, and performance reporting.
