About the Role
You will lead research and development for advanced polymer coating materials used in load-bearing composites. You will design experiments, characterize material performance, investigate failures, and translate coating chemistry into durable, manufacturable robotic systems. You will establish laboratory procedures, testing methods, and documentation that support production readiness and intellectual property development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a closely related engineering discipline
- At least 3 years of experience developing advanced polymer coating materials
- Experience with material characterization including DMA, DSC, TGA, FTIR, rheology, and mechanical testing
- Experience with polymer synthesis, formulation chemistry, and polyurethane or other coating polymer chemistries
- Experience designing statistically rigorous experiments using DOE and analyzing experimental data
- Laboratory skills, chemical safety knowledge, documentation discipline, and experimental rigor
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts across multidisciplinary engineering teams
Responsibilities
- Develop novel polymer coating materials for load-bearing materials and composites
- Characterize coating and composite performance using chemical, thermal, and mechanical analysis techniques
- Build structure–property–process–performance models for coating materials
- Investigate coating and composite failures and implement chemistry-driven improvements
- Establish laboratory procedures, testing methodologies, and technical documentation
