About the Role
You will inspect industrial piping and structural-steel welds during construction and at completion. You will verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, materials, joint preparation, repairs, testing, and inspection records. You will document findings, coordinate with construction and engineering, support turnover, and follow all site safety requirements.
Requirements
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- Ability to travel extensively and remain onsite during peak construction phases
- Ability to work in industrial environments, climb ladders and stairs, lift up to 25 lb, stand and walk for a full shift, and wear PPE
Responsibilities
- Inspect and accept or reject industrial piping and structural-steel welds against applicable codes, welding procedures, and drawings
- Interpret AWS, ASME, and project specifications against construction drawings
- Monitor welding work and confirm compliance with qualified welding procedures
- Verify and document welder qualifications
- Check joint preparation, fit-up, cleanliness, tack quality, temperatures, and cleaning
- Verify base and filler metals and welding-consumable handling
- Recommend and verify repairs and inspect completed repairs
- Oversee nondestructive examinations and required testing
- Record inspection results and communicate findings
- Review contractor welding and inspection practices
- Follow site safety rules and report weld, safety, and drawing issues
- Support punch-list and NDE hold points through system turnover
