About the Role
You will create unified narratives and public-facing content for astrophysics and space research. You will write and edit materials, pitch stories, manage social and digital content, collaborate on multimedia work, track communication performance, and translate complex scientific topics for broad audiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of professional communications experience
- Experience pitching stories and working with the press
- Working knowledge of astrophysics, observational astronomy, astronomical instrumentation, and computational tools
- Ability to translate technical topics for non-expert audiences
- Writing and editing skills
- Experience using AI tools for workflows and productivity
- Experience managing websites, digital content platforms, and social channels
- Familiarity with analytics tools and audience engagement metrics
- Project management skills
- Ability to travel nationally or internationally
Responsibilities
- Develop clear, unified narratives for astrophysics programs
- Advise program staff on positioning, messaging, and presentations
- Create grantee profiles, interviews, and feature stories
- Draft and edit press releases, website content, reports, blog posts, newsletters, op-eds, social posts, speeches, and explainers
- Translate complex astrophysics and instrumentation research for diverse audiences
- Pitch stories to journalists, podcasters, and other influencers
- Maintain consistent tone, brand, and messaging
- Collaborate on video, audio, interactive, and short-form storytelling
- Develop content calendars and post to social media channels
- Monitor communication performance metrics and inform strategy
- Identify opportunities to use digital tools, data visualization, and AI technologies
- Manage incoming communications requests and provide project support
