About the Role
You will lead legal matters for the European and UK business, including regulatory strategy, licensing, financial-product advice, commercial agreements, and regulator engagement. You will manage regional outside counsel, support AML/CFT and data-protection work, and contribute to expansion into additional regulated markets.
Requirements
- Be a qualified lawyer admitted in at least one EU/EEA Member State or the UK
- Demonstrate capability across EU and UK law
- Have 10+ years of post-qualification legal experience, including significant in-house and/or financial-services experience
- Have experience owning regulatory and licensing matters and advising a business directly
- Have experience drafting and negotiating material commercial agreements
- Demonstrate practical legal judgment under time pressure
- Have project-management and organizational skills
- Have excellent written and spoken English
Responsibilities
- Lead regulatory, product, and commercial legal matters across Europe and the UK
- Develop and execute European regulatory strategy, including obtaining, maintaining, and passporting licenses
- Advise on European and UK lending regulation, including structuring, licensing, and disclosure requirements
- Counsel product teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Negotiate commercial agreements with banking, payment, custody, trading, lending, vendor, and marketing partners
- Manage outside counsel relationships, work, and spend
- Lead regulator engagement with European and UK authorities
- Support the AML/CFT programme and FATF Travel Rule implementation
- Advise on GDPR obligations in product development and commercial partnerships
- Support international expansion, cross-border products, and lending initiatives
