About the Role

You will own the system architecture for the Payments and OTC portfolio and create a clear, current map of systems, contracts, and domain models that teams use. You will author high-level designs for new capabilities, review and sign off technical designs from teams, and record key decisions with their rationale. You will partner closely with product, engineering, and commercial leaders to shape scope, sequence work, and act as a solution architect for bank, payment provider, and partner integrations. You will drive payment orchestration and settlement architecture, shape repeatable integration patterns, and guide the client-side architecture as payment experiences move to a Flutter-based mobile stack. You will build compliance, security, and data protection into designs from the start, use AI tooling to accelerate your own design work, and connect the portfolio to the wider architecture community.

Requirements

  • Recent experience architecting consumer-facing, high-scale distributed systems, with leverage coming from design, writing, and influence
  • Comfort with a non-coding role while still able to build proofs of concept and read code across the stack
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Experience in backend architecture, including event-driven architecture, microservices, API and domain modelling, and at least one major cloud provider (ideally AWS)
  • Experience with payment systems, including payment providers, orchestration, settlement, reconciliation, and bank and partner integrations across multiple markets
  • OTC or trading systems experience (advantageous)
  • Credibility across web and mobile client architecture, with the ability to guide rich client experiences on complex backends
  • Flutter experience (advantageous)
  • Previous software engineering experience in a modern language, with strong product sense
  • Experience working in regulated markets or designing with compliance, security, and data protection as first-class constraints
  • Experience using AI tools with sound judgment and excitement about helping an organisation adopt them
  • Ability to translate architecture for product, compliance, commercial, and executive audiences
  • BSc in Computer Science or another technical discipline, or equivalent working experience

  • Design for compliance, security, and data protection as first-class constraints
  • Champion AI adoption by using AI tooling in design work and helping teams apply it well
  • Connect the portfolio to the wider architecture community by bringing standards in and carrying friction back out
