About the Role

You will build and own the fraud decisioning layer for onboarding, transfers, on/offramp orders, and card transactions. You will convert analyst judgment into production rules and models, create fraud signals, measure control effectiveness, and investigate emerging abuse patterns. You will lead the engineering response to fraud incidents, build operational tooling, evaluate third-party platforms, support compliance evidence, review new product designs, and participate in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Have at least five years of experience building production systems, including at least three years focused on fraud, risk, or trust and safety.
  • Demonstrate a record of reducing measurable fraud losses in payments, card issuing or acquiring, banking, lending, marketplaces, or a cryptocurrency exchange.
  • Have hands-on production ownership of a rules engine or model-serving path and its supporting data pipeline.
  • Possess strong programming skills in at least one modern language; TypeScript is preferred.
  • Understand catch rate, false-positive rate, precision at threshold, loss rate, and the trade-offs among them.
  • Use SQL and independently conduct data analysis.
  • Evaluate fraud controls against prevented losses and the customer friction they introduce.
  • Have deep familiarity with current AI and agentic tools and understand their effects on fraud work.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or possess equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience with stablecoins, wallet infrastructure, blockchain payment rails, onchain tracing, or address risk is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with card-scheme fraud, including chargebacks, disputes, monitoring programs, 3DS, and SCA exemptions, is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with KYC or KYB onboarding abuse and synthetic identity detection is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with commercial fraud and monitoring platforms is a strong advantage.
  • Experience as an organization's first fraud engineer or in an early-stage risk function is a strong advantage.
  • Direct experience with BSA/OFAC, PSD2/SCA, MiCA, DORA, or SOC 2 is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own services that score and decide onboarding attempts, stablecoin transfers, on/offramp orders, and card transactions.
  • Convert analyst judgment into production rules and models with clear thresholds, versioning, backtesting, and rapid rollback capabilities.
  • Build device, behavioral, velocity, counterparty, and graph-based signals across clients and wallets.
  • Measure and report catch rate, false-positive rate, and fraud loss for each product line.
  • Build detection for account takeover, mule networks, first-party fraud, synthetic identities, refund abuse, promotional abuse, and agent-initiated payment abuse.
  • Rapidly convert newly identified fraud patterns into live controls.
  • Lead the engineering response to fraud incidents, contain losses, identify root causes, and remediate product vulnerabilities.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Build case management, queue, reason-code, and self-service rule-tuning tools for Risk Operations analysts.
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions for device intelligence, transaction monitoring, screening, and case management tools, and integrate selected solutions.
  • Generate system-based evidence for compliance filings, audits, and supervisory reviews.
  • Review new-product design documents and identify fraud risks before launch.
  • Work with client-facing teams to address client fraud affecting the platform's payment rails.
  • Stay current with fraud tooling, onchain tracing, and AI-native engineering workflows.
  • Track the financial impact of fraud controls and the legitimate customers affected by them.
