About the Role

You will lead delivery of developer-facing tools and AI capabilities, including an MCP server, CLI, SDK, documentation pipeline, local development environment, and deployment workflows. You will write production code, review code, set engineering standards, coordinate dependencies across engineering teams, plan sprints, and support partner integrations and hiring.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a tech lead, staff, or senior lead role.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.
  • Experience shipping production APIs, CLIs, or SDKs to external developers.
  • Experience building CLI tools and developer-facing workflows.
  • Understanding of REST API design, SDK ergonomics, and developer experience.
  • Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol or agentic tool-use patterns.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience leading and developing engineers through technical direction and reviews.
  • Cloud-native experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, deployment automation, AWS, or GCP.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Drive delivery of the Shop Builder developer surface, including the MCP server, CLI, local development environment, public SDK, documentation pipeline, sandbox and preview environments, and deployment and versioning path.
  • Lead and mentor three engineers, set technical direction, run code reviews, and maintain engineering quality.
  • Coordinate inbound API capabilities and dependencies with payments, authentication, live operations, and catalog teams.
  • Ship production code, particularly for critical and complex components.
  • Translate architecture decisions into sprint-level execution plans and timelines with the Principal Engineer.
  • Collaborate on roadmap sequencing, scope decisions, and speed-versus-correctness trade-offs.
  • Own sprint planning, technical grooming, retrospectives, and delivery-status visibility.
  • Define and maintain testing, observability, deployment, and documentation standards.
  • Serve as the technical contact for headless-partner and professional-services integrations during partner onboarding.
  • Conduct technical interviews and help define hiring standards.
