Staff Software Integration Engineer
Merlin is a Boston-based aerospace and defense technology company developing AI-powered, aircraft-agnostic autonomy software for fixed-wing aircraft.
About Merlin
Merlin’s Merlin Pilot combines hardware and software intended to perform takeoff-to-touchdown flight functions for military and civil aircraft, supporting reduced-crew and autonomous operations. The operating business began as Apollo Flight Research in 2018, became Merlin Labs in 2020, and is now operated under public parent Merlin, Inc.

About the Role
You will own the architecture, development, and sustainment of real-time I/O software and telemetry infrastructure for aircraft integration benches and simulation environments. You will build C++ software for embedded Linux targets, Rust telemetry services, hardware abstraction layers, binary protocols, and network interfaces. You will maintain deployment workflows and automated testing, while working with engineering partners to reproduce and resolve hardware and software integration issues.
Requirements
- Proficiency in modern C++
- Experience developing timing-sensitive Linux software
- Deep familiarity with Linux host and embedded systems
- Experience integrating avionics or comparable hardware interfaces, including ARINC 429
- Experience developing binary serializers and parsers
- Understanding of UDP/TCP networking and asynchronous data pipelines
- Experience with embedded Linux cross-compilation and CMake
- Proficiency in Python for engineering tools, test automation, and data processing
- Experience with Rust services or asynchronous systems programming
- Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, Git, code review, and issue tracking
- Ability to own end-to-end systems and troubleshoot physical hardware
- Ability to work regularly onsite in Boston
