About the Role
You will own the vector database layer, including index structures, storage layout, query execution, and serving. You will benchmark search quality, plan capacity, improve throughput, and make recall, latency, and cost trade-offs. You will extend hybrid retrieval, establish evaluation methods, lead designs, mentor engineers, and share on-call responsibilities.
Requirements
- Experience building a production vector database or approximate nearest-neighbor search system at scale
- Knowledge of ANN index structures, vector quantization, and filtered search
- Search relevance and ranking experience
- Systems programming skills in Rust, C++, or Go
- Experience with large-scale distributed storage or serving systems
- Experience delivering ambiguous multi-quarter technical projects
- Written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Own vector database index structures, storage layout, query execution, and serving
- Benchmark against exact search and plan capacity
- Onboard new workloads and build operational tooling
- Optimize recall, latency, and cost trade-offs
- Scale throughput for research and training workloads
- Extend retrieval toward lexical search and fused ranking
- Set evaluation methodology and regression detection
- Lead design reviews and mentor engineers
- Share on-call responsibilities
