About the Role
You will build Gusto's PEO Benefits experience, including benefits shopping, plan recommendations, carrier integrations, MCP tools, and agents for operational and customer support processes. You will make architectural decisions, scale Ruby on Rails and React applications, collaborate across teams, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience
- 3+ years of PEO experience preferred
- Direct experience building PEO flows in a high-growth environment preferred
- Experience owning multi-quarter projects with measurable customer impact
- Experience driving large cross-functional projects end-to-end through ambiguity
- Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development and improve testing
- Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks
- Ability to mentor engineers
- Experience with or interest in Ruby on Rails
- Ability to build well-structured, maintainable, well-documented code
- Ability to communicate across engineering teams and with business stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test the PEO Benefits experience
- Build benefits shopping and plan-recommendation flows
- Integrate carrier systems
- Build MCP tools and agents for operational and customer support processes
- Mentor engineers
- Scale Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React applications
- Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering teams
- Prototype, iterate, and launch product improvements
