About the Role
You will own database architecture, caching, multi-tenant infrastructure, rate limiting, and performance optimization. You will design scalable data patterns, improve critical-path latency, build graceful degradation under load, and create observability that detects reliability and performance regressions.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years focused on infrastructure, backend systems, or platform engineering
- Experience owning cross-cutting infrastructure
- Strong backend skills in Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar technologies
- Deep relational database experience
- Experience with Postgres
- Experience diagnosing scaling or reliability problems
- Ability to work in San Francisco three days per week
Responsibilities
- Own database performance, query optimization, indexing, connection management, and capacity planning
- Design multi-tenant data patterns
- Build caching infrastructure and optimize critical application paths
- Design rate-limiting, queue-management, circuit-breaker, and load-shedding systems
- Build dashboards and alerts for database, cache, connection-pool, and API-latency performance
- Harden systems against reliability failure modes
