About the Role

You will own the end-to-end architecture of the Managed Data Transfer service, assess and evolve its production prototype, and improve throughput and reliability. You will define cross-team interfaces, guide product trade-offs, establish operational standards, and mentor engineers through design reviews and coaching.

Requirements

Experience designing and operating data-intensive distributed systems at scale
8+ years shipping production software
Experience leading a service from prototype to general availability
Understanding of object storage semantics, file systems, and TCP throughput
Ability to profile and improve transfer performance
Experience evolving live systems while minimizing customer risk
Experience defining and negotiating API boundaries and schema contracts
Experience with customer-facing on-call and maintainable, observable systems
Proficiency in Go or another modern compiled language
Ability to communicate architectural decisions to engineers, product managers, and engineering managers

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end Managed Data Transfer architecture
Design the job API, scheduler, Kubernetes transfer workers, storage integration, and network paths
Evaluate, refactor, extend, or replace the production prototype
Migrate existing users without interruption
Set data-plane strategies for sharding, concurrency, straggler handling, and checksum verification
Define interfaces with Storage, Network, Kubernetes, IAM, Console, Billing, and Monitoring
Design extensible transfer engines and regional worker pools
Evaluate open-source and vendor options
Set reliability, observability, and on-call standards
Partner with Product on scope, pricing trade-offs, and milestones
Mentor engineers through design reviews, RFC feedback, and coaching
