About the Role

You will translate stakeholder needs into verifiable software and system requirements for a humanoid robot. You will define capabilities, architectures, interfaces, integration plans, and verification criteria across the software and autonomy stack. You will coordinate cross-functional integration, investigate system issues, establish validation strategies, and communicate risks and trade-offs.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in systems engineering, robotics software, software architecture, autonomous systems, or a related domain
  • Experience with complex software-intensive or cyber-physical systems
  • Knowledge of requirements engineering, architecture definition, interface management, integration, verification, validation, and traceability
  • Experience in several robotics software domains, including ROS, perception, sensor fusion, localization, navigation, planning, controls, AI, simulation, or distributed real-time systems
  • Ability to evaluate software behaviour across multiple components
  • Experience defining measurable acceptance criteria for complex system behaviours
  • Analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and technical communication skills
  • Familiarity with ROS 2, C++, Python, Linux, Git, CI/CD, containers, and modern software development workflows
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Isaac Sim, Gazebo, MuJoCo, or MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with SysML, model-based systems engineering, or software architecture modelling

Responsibilities

  • Translate stakeholder needs into clear and verifiable system and software requirements
  • Define software capabilities for robot behaviours, use cases, and product objectives
  • Develop and maintain the functional and logical architecture of the software and autonomy stack
  • Define component interfaces, dependencies, system boundaries, and responsibilities
  • Coordinate integration across software, firmware, electronics, sensors, actuators, and mechanical systems
  • Define integration stages, readiness criteria, and test environments
  • Investigate complex system-level software and hardware issues
  • Define degraded, recovery, fallback, and safe-state behaviours
  • Develop verification and validation strategies for autonomous robotic capabilities
  • Establish performance and acceptance criteria for autonomous functions
  • Maintain traceability between use cases, requirements, architecture, implementation, tests, and verification evidence
  • Facilitate technical reviews and communicate technical risks and trade-offs
  • Coach engineering teams in practical systems engineering methods

Benefits

  • Stock options
  • 23 days of annual leave
  • UK bank holidays
  • Additional company closure days, including a Christmas–New Year shutdown
  • Private healthcare
  • Virtual and in-person care
  • Pension scheme with 8% total contribution, including 3% employer contribution
