About the Role
You will own the relational database serving layer end to end, including query performance, cost, and availability. You will tune queries, design indexes, optimize schemas, manage CDC pipelines, automate database operations, validate production changes, and migrate workloads. You will use AI-assisted analysis and coding tools to improve database performance, cost, reliability, and operational workflows.
Requirements
- 5–8 years building and operating production PostgreSQL or equivalent distributed Postgres
- SQL optimization skills including explain plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design, and query-planner behavior
- Experience with CDC tools such as PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte
- Database profiling experience with pganalyze or equivalent
- Production automation experience in Python or Go
- Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude or Copilot
- Experience using AI-assisted analysis to improve database cost or performance
Responsibilities
- Own query tuning, index design, and schema optimization for Postgres and Citus systems
- Use AI-assisted analysis to identify and ship storage and compute cost improvements
- Build automation for database operations, including pgbouncer provisioning, disk scaling, and blue-green deployments
- Drive validation of database changes before production deployment
- Manage CDC pipelines and debug replication failures
- Migrate workloads and prototype new data stores
- Create AI-native runbooks and internal tooling
