About the Role

You will design and build greenfield, production-grade backend services for payment, payout, card processing, FX, and treasury products. You will develop APIs and resilient distributed systems, optimise performance and data access, and build observability, CI/CD, container configuration, and security controls. You will also contribute React components for operational and merchant-facing interfaces when required.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot, including Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security
• Experience building and operating high-throughput, high-availability distributed payment or financial-services systems
• Understanding of payment architecture, including idempotency, exactly-once delivery, reconciliation, and settlement
• Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL and Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent messaging systems
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes or EKS, and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions
• Experience with PCI DSS-compliant system design and secure coding practices
• Experience with LLM-powered production features, prompt engineering, tool or function calling, and structured API outputs
• Experience with agentic workflows, including retries, failure handling, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints
• Familiarity with MCP or similar tool-use frameworks
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade Java and Spring Boot services with high throughput, low latency, and high availability
• Implement and evolve RESTful, gRPC, MCP, and event-driven APIs for payment initiation, callbacks, reconciliation, and settlement
• Build resilient services using circuit breakers, retries, idempotency, graceful degradation, observability, and telemetry
• Optimise service performance through profiling, load testing, and SQL and NoSQL data-access design
• Provide code reviews and guidance to colleagues and offshore development teams
• Build new payout, card processing, FX, treasury orchestration, and cash forecasting components
• Contribute to PCI DSS-compliant design, sensitive-data handling, audit logging, and access control
• Contribute React components for internal tooling, operational dashboards, and merchant-facing interfaces
• Integrate FX data sources and contribute to cash-position and FX-exposure monitoring where required
• Implement structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, SLOs, SLAs, and alerting
• Set up CI/CD pipelines, Docker and EKS configuration, and code-quality gates using SonarCloud and SAST
