About the Role
You will design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services powering blockchain integrations, digital asset custody, and on-chain transaction processing at scale. You will build and evolve integrations with blockchain networks, crypto providers, and custody infrastructure to support multi-chain, multi-asset operations. You will contribute to the architecture and evolution of the Layer1 platform, ensuring reliability, security, and data integrity. You will build and maintain APIs that support the full digital asset lifecycle, from address generation to deposits, withdrawals, consolidation, and balance management. You will drive improvements to system observability, performance, and resilience, and collaborate with product, design, and other engineering squads to deliver high-impact features. You will participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and an out-of-hours on-call rotation, while mentoring peers and championing best practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience as a backend software engineer with deep proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar JVM-based languages
- Experience designing, building, and operating microservices in a distributed systems environment
- Solid understanding of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and event-driven architectures such as Kafka, SQS/SNS
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code concepts and modern software delivery practices (CI/CD)
- Experience with observability and reliability tooling including logging, metrics, tracing, and performance optimisation
- Comfortable working with Jira, Confluence, Git-based workflows, and collaborative engineering practices
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering

- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including product, design, and other engineering squads to deliver high-impact features
- Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical design sessions
- Mentor peers, share knowledge, and champion best practices
- Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rotation
