About the Role
You will help set and execute scientific and technical strategy for AI programs. You will evaluate research proposals and major awards, develop programs, manage program scientists, build external relationships, and advise on AI and advanced computing.
Requirements
- Advanced degree with a focus on artificial intelligence
- 10 or more years of academic and industry experience in artificial intelligence
- Deep understanding of machine learning, deep learning, probabilistic modeling, generative models, reinforcement learning, and large-scale representation learning
- Experience leading teams and managing technical staff
- Experience designing, training, and evaluating state-of-the-art models
- Track record of scientific accomplishments
- Ability to evaluate AI-related technical and scientific claims
- Relationships in the AI community and experience with AI-focused institutions
- Technical writing experience for expert and general audiences
- Ability to collaborate in high-intensity team-based environments
- Ability to travel within the United States and internationally as needed
Responsibilities
- Support the design, evolution, and execution of scientific and technical strategy
- Co-design multi-year research agendas
- Identify AI areas where philanthropy can provide significant advancement
- Provide technical advice to existing programs and major awards
- Develop new programs with team members
- Assess expressions of interest and research proposals
- Manage program scientists and visiting scientists
- Improve grantmaking, budgeting, events, and convening processes
- Engage with AI stakeholders to identify trends and collaboration opportunities
- Advise on AI and advanced computing topics, with a focus on AI and humanities
- Identify potential partners among universities, labs, research facilities, philanthropic organizations, and government organizations
- Represent AI and advanced computing work at relevant conferences and events
