About the Role

You will build and lead a four-engineer pilot team focused on resolving the highest-leverage sources of friction in the software development lifecycle. You will define the operating model, establish metric baselines, investigate root causes, and deliver durable improvements to merge request throughput, pipeline success, and pipeline latency. You will work hands-on with technical problems, partner with affected engineering teams to drive adoption, communicate impact to leadership, and codify successful practices for broader use.

Requirements

  • Experience leading small, high-autonomy engineering teams.
  • Experience in developer productivity, CI/CD, platform engineering, or infrastructure reliability.
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD and build systems.
  • Ability to diagnose pipeline flakiness and latency and improve success-rate metrics.
  • Root-cause analysis expertise.
  • Experience with metrics-driven accountability and honest reporting.
  • Executive-level communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and refine the operating model for the non-linear productivity pilot.
  • Identify and prioritize high-leverage SDLC productivity opportunities.
  • Translate the pilot mandate into a time-boxed roadmap with milestones.
  • Source, evaluate, and select four engineers for the pilot squad.
  • Negotiate engineer allocation models with current engineering managers.
  • Set technical direction, working norms, decision-making processes, and reporting practices.
  • Mentor engineers in root-cause diagnosis and shift-left thinking.
  • Instrument and baseline merge request throughput, pipeline success rate, and pipeline latency.
  • Diagnose friction points using data and validate hypotheses before committing to fixes.
  • Design and implement compounding quality, tooling, context, and interface improvements.
  • Review architecture, investigate pipeline internals, and unblock difficult technical problems.
  • Drive pathfinder friction areas from diagnosis through measurable improvement.
  • Partner with affected engineering teams to ensure fixes are adopted and sustained.
  • Track and report metric movement, including unsuccessful bets.
  • Codify reusable patterns and playbooks for organization-wide adoption.
  • Report pilot impact to engineering managers and leadership.
  • Ensure fixes degrade gracefully and do not introduce CI/CD reliability risks.
  • Define pilot graduation criteria and make the case for or against a permanent function based on results.
