About the Role
You will inspect electrical installations, verify them against approved designs, and resolve deficiencies through closure. You will review testing and commissioning results, develop energization procedures, troubleshoot power infrastructure, coordinate stakeholders, validate turnover documentation, and provide technical leadership during high-risk energization activities.
Requirements
- Significant experience delivering, commissioning, or operating electrical systems in data centers, mission-critical facilities, utilities, or large industrial environments.
- Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution systems.
- Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, submittals, protection studies, relay settings, test reports, and construction documentation.
- Hands-on experience with site inspections, electrical testing, energization, commissioning, or operational turnover.
- Knowledge of electrical safety, lockout/tagout, energized work controls, NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA requirements.
- Ability to assess safety, reliability, and operational risks.
- Ability to make field decisions, escalate critical issues, and coordinate corrective work under schedule pressure.
- Clear communication with construction teams, engineers, vendors, operators, and senior stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel extensively and spend extended periods at active sites.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform site walkdowns and verify electrical systems against approved designs and standards.
- Validate equipment ratings, protection settings, phasing, grounding, terminations, labeling, redundancy, and failure domains.
- Identify deficiencies and operational risks, document punch-list items, and drive closure.
- Review construction test results and witness factory, site, functional, and integrated systems testing.
- Develop and review energization plans, operating procedures, switching procedures, and electrical safety controls.
- Support initial energization and troubleshoot substations, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, busway, PDUs, RPPs, and rack-level distribution.
- Coordinate with engineers, utilities, contractors, trades, manufacturers, commissioning agents, operations, and deployment teams.
- Confirm electrical readiness before IT equipment is energized.
- Validate as-built documentation, equipment settings, test reports, commissioning records, and turnover packages.
- Incorporate field lessons into design standards and commissioning playbooks.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership during high-risk energization and bring-up activities.
