Skills
About the Role
You will build and operate the software systems that connect AI-generated experiment requests with partner laboratories. You will develop reliable lab-to-cloud integrations, create APIs and data models, integrate laboratory instruments and systems, and deploy secure, scalable cloud services. You will also support the technical onboarding of lab partners and co-design workflows with scientists and engineers.
Requirements
- Lab automation, self-driving lab, or scientific discovery workflow experience
- Production backend software engineering experience
- Python
- API design
- Distributed systems
- API integration
- Message queues
- Event-driven architecture
- Data contracts
- Security practices for externally facing systems
- Communication with experimental scientists, optimisation experts and engineers
Responsibilities
- Design, build and operate services that send experiment requests to partner labs and return results to the platform
- Build APIs and data models for bidirectional lab-to-cloud data exchange
- Integrate lab instruments, robotic platforms, LIMS and ELN systems, and scheduling software
- Make integrations reliable through idempotency, retries, queueing, monitoring and alerting
- Support the technical onboarding of new lab partners
- Co-design workflows with materials scientists, optimisation experts and engineers
- Deploy and operate containerised cloud services with testing and CI/CD
