About the Role

Investigate payment reviews, processing exceptions, and unusual transaction activity across multiple payment rails. Manage partner information requests, communicate with customers, assess transaction risk, coordinate recalls and returns, document decisions, escalate compliance concerns, monitor cases, improve operational tooling and controls, develop procedures, analyze trends, and help launch new payment capabilities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in payment operations, risk operations, fraud investigations, compliance operations, banking operations, or a related role.
  • Working knowledge of payment systems and transaction lifecycles, including ACH, domestic and international wires, RTP, and cards.
  • Strong investigative judgment.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to make decisions with incomplete information and recognize when additional diligence or escalation is necessary.
  • Ability to balance customer experience, operational urgency, fraud exposure, and compliance requirements.
  • High agency and ability to execute without detailed direction.
  • Ability to collaborate with Compliance, Customer Success, Product, Engineering, and external financial partners.
  • Interest in using technology and AI to improve investigations and reduce manual work.
  • Experience with payment exceptions, BSA/AML, sanctions, fraud, transaction monitoring, financial partners, procedures, analytical tools, or case-management systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate payment reviews, processing exceptions, and unusual transaction activity across ACH, wires, RTP, cards, checks, and other payment rails.
  • Manage financial partner information requests from intake through resolution.
  • Communicate with customers about payment delays, documentation requests, transaction reviews, returns, recalls, disputes, and account restrictions.
  • Review transaction purposes, customer and counterparty relationships, supporting documentation, and account activity for inconsistencies or potential risk.
  • Recommend whether transactions should be released, returned, escalated, or subjected to additional review.
  • Coordinate payment recalls, returns, rejected transactions, beneficiary issues, and other time-sensitive payment events.
  • Escalate potential fraud, money laundering, sanctions, account misuse, and other compliance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate case records documenting investigations and decisions.
  • Monitor operational queues and service levels and prioritize urgent or high-impact cases.
  • Identify recurring failure points, customer-friction patterns, and control gaps.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, investigation templates, escalation standards, and operational playbooks.
  • Analyze operational and risk trends and communicate actionable insights.
  • Help launch and operationalize new payment rails, products, and financial-partner relationships.
