Resolution is an independent nonprofit AI-alignment research institute focused on theory, empirics, and automation intended to increase confidence in aligned advanced AI.
About Resolution
Resolution Alignment, Inc. is the renamed legal successor to Timaeus Research, Inc. It was briefly announced as Sequent in June 2026 before adopting the Resolution name. The institute combines former Timaeus researchers with researchers from the UK AISI Alignment Team, with a major in-person presence in Berkeley and remote researchers elsewhere.

About the Role
You will lead or contribute to original philosophy and AI alignment research, identify underspecified problems, and turn them into projects. You will connect philosophical analysis to empirical hypotheses, experimental designs, training approaches, and evaluation methods. You will collaborate across disciplines, communicate through papers and presentations, and may lead research areas, set agendas, mentor junior researchers, and lead collaborations depending on seniority.
Requirements
- PhD in a relevant field or rigorous research experience
- Motivation to work on AI alignment
- Ability to identify important questions with unclear problems, concepts, or success criteria
- Interest in connecting philosophical analysis with empirical research
- Ability to communicate and collaborate across disciplines
Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to original research in philosophy and AI alignment
- Identify underspecified problems and develop research projects
- Connect philosophical analysis to empirical hypotheses, experiments, training approaches, and evaluation methods
- Collaborate with machine learning researchers and other disciplines
- Communicate research through papers, reports, presentations, and external engagement
- Define research areas, set agendas, lead collaborations, and mentor researchers depending on seniority
