About the Role

You will develop protection schemes, relay settings, panel arrangements, control designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic diagrams for high-voltage substations and interconnections. You will perform coordination and fault studies, coordinate with utilities, support factory and site testing, troubleshoot field issues, maintain compliance documentation, and build program standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of protection and controls engineering for high-voltage substations, transmission, or utility interconnections at 69kV-345kV.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • PE license is preferred.
  • Hands-on protective relaying experience, especially with SEL platforms.
  • Experience with scheme design, settings development, and event analysis.
  • Coordination and fault study experience with ASPEN or CAPE.
  • Knowledge of NERC PRC standards and utility interconnection protection processes.
  • Commissioning experience with relay functional testing and end-to-end tests.
  • Experience working with NETA field crews.
  • SCADA, RTU, and communications-assisted protection familiarity is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel 20-35% for factory tests, energizations, and utility meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review high-voltage protection schemes, relay panels, and control designs.
  • Produce and review AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic diagrams.
  • Specify protective relays, RTUs, meters, and panel equipment.
  • Develop, review, version, and reconcile relay settings files and setting philosophies.
  • Perform and validate protection coordination, fault, and arc-flash studies.
  • Support interconnection protection packages, SCADA or RTU point lists, and utility reviews.
  • Drive utility comments to resolution through energization.
  • Maintain NERC PRC-related compliance documentation where applicable.
  • Support factory acceptance, site acceptance, relay functional, and end-to-end testing.
  • Provide field troubleshooting support during construction and energization.
  • Build protection and controls standards, templates, panel typicals, settings libraries, and testing requirements.
  • Review vendor drawings and mentor the HV or MV Project Engineer.
