About the Role
You will serve as the technical lead for mechanical engineering and own the mechanical master model. You will drive platform integration, lead design and validation, establish CAD and analysis practices, reduce manufacturing costs, and work with suppliers and contract manufacturers through production transfer. You will also guide engineers and contractors and travel as needed for supplier and contract-manufacturer engagements.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering; MS preferred
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience
- Experience with actuators, drivetrains, or complex motorized mechanical assemblies for human-interaction or safety-relevant products
- Mechanical architecture and system-level integration ownership
- Expert SolidWorks skills
- FEA, kinematics, dynamics, GD&T, and tolerance-analysis expertise
- Knowledge of sheet metal, welding, casting, CNC machining, injection molding, and assembly
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production
- Cost-down and should-cost modeling experience
- Hands-on prototyping, instrumentation, characterization, and testing experience
- Technical leadership and mentorship experience
- Ability to work onsite in NYC or be based in the greater Boston area with regular travel to the NYC office
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical master model and system-level platform integration
- Make architecture tradeoffs across cost, weight, acoustics, reliability, and perceived quality
- Lead design, analysis, prototyping, and validation of mechanical subsystems
- Set CAD standards, FEA rigor, tolerance practices, and design methodology
- Lead CAD reviews, design reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship
- Identify and reduce design, material, and manufacturing costs
- Refine designs for manufacturability and optimize tooling, fixtures, and assembly processes
- Partner with supply chain, contract manufacturers, and suppliers through NPI and production
- Produce CAD, BOMs, drawings, and cost reports for production transfer
- Partner with electrical, firmware, controls, operations, and quality stakeholders
- Research and evaluate actuation, transmission, sensing, and structural technologies
- Travel for supplier and contract-manufacturer engagements, including internationally
