About the Role
You will perform precision repair, installation, and maintenance work on mechanical components in a generation facility. You will use shop tools and machinery, maintain boilers and auxiliary equipment, fabricate and weld metal components, follow safety procedures, document maintenance activities, and support contractors during overhauls.
Requirements
- High school or vocational school diploma, or equivalent, with emphasis on mechanical skills and metalworking or welding processes.
- Four years of experience as a mechanic, machinist, or welder, preferably in a generation plant environment.
- Knowledge of generation plant machine repair and maintenance methods, materials, tools, and techniques.
- Knowledge of boiler and power plant machinery operating principles.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
- Knowledge of shielded metal arc welding and gas-tungsten arc welding.
- Ability to locate, correct, and adjust defects in complex mechanical equipment.
- Ability to repair, overhaul, and maintain cogeneration plant equipment.
- Ability to read drawings, procedures, illustrations, charts, and sketches.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to pass respirator fit tests and use respiratory protective equipment or self-contained breathing apparatus.
Responsibilities
- Perform repair and maintenance work using blueprints, sketches, procedures, and precision machining equipment.
- Identify mechanical design issues and machinery improvements, and recommend modifications.
- Maintain logs of time, materials, procedures, and maintenance information.
- Follow safety and environmental rules, identify hazards, and implement or recommend repairs.
- Work with outside contractors during overhauls, mechanical installations, and outage work.
- Handle rigging and lifting equipment for heavy machinery and materials.
- Keep maintenance equipment in good repair and safe operating condition.
- Maintain boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Make or document certified weld repairs to boiler tubes, high-pressure piping, and vessels when assigned.
- Operate and maintain shop machines and tools.
- Perform metal fabrication and welding for generation plant equipment.
